Measure the wall where the sofa will sit, leave about 30–36 inches for walkways, and check the delivery path—doorways, stairs, and elevators. Seat depth and overall length matter as much as style.

Choose a sectional when you need more seats in an open plan or L-shaped room. A standard sofa usually fits tighter walls and clearer walkways. Start with room shape and traffic paths before you fall for a configuration.
